What is Office 365 Education (@UM)?
Office 365 Education is an Office 365 plan that is available for free to UM staff and students. This plan allows staff and students to install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, and Access on up to 5 PCs or Macs and Office apps on other mobile devices including Android, iPad®, and Windows tablets.
Where does the offer for UM differ from the generic MS Office 365 for staff and students offer?
At the moment UM does not offer access to OneDrive, Skype for Business and SharePoint to its staff and students.
How long can I use this plan for?
Students can use the plan until they graduate or are no longer enrolled at UM. For staff members the plan is available until termination of employment. Eligibility will be re-verified automatically. Mobile update terraria. At expiration, the Office applications enter a reduced-functionality mode, which means documents can be viewed but it isn't possible to edit or create new documents.
Can I share the plan with others?
No. Office 365 Education is licensed for use only by the eligible UM student or staff member.

I am unable to login and activate my licenses
There can be 2 problems:
1. Accounts need to be accessed every 3 months in order to keep the license valid. Please make sure you logged into your account in the last 3 months.
2. Accounts are replicated for Office365 licenses on a daily basis. An account that was created (and logged into) today is eligible for an Office365 license tomorrow.
3a. Students: Make sure you have an active enrollment at UM. Upon graduation, when you terminate your studies or in case of a financial hold access will be suspended.
3b. Employees: Make sure you have an active employment contract directly with UM and that your personnel number is registered on your user account. Seconded personnel or MUMC+ with an employment contract at the azM are not eligible for UM's Office365 offer.
Is an uninstall of earlier versions of Office required prior to starting the installation of the Office package offered via Office365?
This is not required, however it is highly recommended. Previous versions may cause issues after installation of the new Office version. Starcraft 2 30gb.
I do not have a Dutch spell checker in Word.
The English version of MS Word does not include a Dutch dictionary. You can re-install the Dutch version of Office or download/purchase the Dutch Proofing Tools/Language Pack from the Microsoft Website.
Which version do I install (32 bits vs 64 bits)?
Because of compatibility issues with some plug-ins We advise to always install the 32 bits version of Office. Please check the help text on the download page for information on the limitations of the 64 bits version.
Can I install Office 365 at my office computer supplied by UM?
This is not advised and in most cases installation will be actively blocked. UM currently standardizes on Office versions 2016 (Windows and Mac). These versions have been tested and found to be compatible with UM's back-end systems. As Office 365 versions can be changed by Microsoft they might differ from UM standard and as a result may cause problems when connecting to the UM back-end systems.

KU Leuven offers it's staff & students a free Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise license. Staff & students of all different courses, departments & campuses of KU Leuven can use this license.
Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise is a part of Microsoft 365 & contains the suite of Office applications, which can be used locally on deskstops / laptops, mobile devices & online.
OneDrive for Business is also a part of this license. OneDrive is an online cloud storage space where you can save your data / files. This data is accesible via different devices, for example: PC, tablet, smartphone. If you have connection to the internet, you can access this data. The data can be synchronised with a local map. There is also the possibility to share the data with other staff members, students or external members so you can work as a group in the same files. Each staff member & student of KU Leuven has their own OneDrive folder of 2 TB (2000 GB) of storage space.

During the installation, if you would get the question below, always choose 'Work- or school account'.
Step-by-step installation
- Go to office.kuleuven.be & log in via the Central Login.
- You are now logged in on the Office 365-portal where you have access to the online Office applications. Via the 'Install Office' button on the top right of the page, you can choose to download Office.
- You can choose the standard installation (this installation will use you preferred / system language) or you can choose a different language version. You can choose the different version by choosing 'other installation options'.
- In the following screen you can choose the preferred language, the preferred operating system or you can manage your active Office installations.
- The installation program will be downloaded & executed. Further instructions are below.
- Go to office.kuleuven.be & follow the steps below to download the software.
- Execute the downloaded program / file. The installation process will now start.
- Office will be installed in the background. You'll receive a message once the installation program is complete.
- When you start an Office program for the first time, you'll be asked to accept the license agreement:
- Once you have accepted, you'll be asked to log in & activate the license. Fill in your KU Leuven mail address in this field & click 'Next':
- The next screen is the Central Login. Here you fill in your KU Leuven username (u-number / r-number / s-number) as username & your chosen KU Leuven password in the password field (or log in via the KU Leuven Authenticator).
- Lastly you'll get the option to change the privacy settings:
- Office has now been installed on your Windows device.
- ATTENTION: If you are not signed in with a Microsoft account on Windows, you'll get the option to use your account everywhere on your device. Do NOT click 'Yes', select the 'This app only' option on the bottom left. Make sure the 'Allow my organization to manage my device' is NOT checked.
- Go to office.kuleuven.be & follow the instructions above to download the installation program / file.
- Start the installation program via your Downloads map.
- Click 'Continue' a few times to execute the installer.
- Once you start Office you'll be asked to activate the program. Click 'Sign in'.
- Log in with your KU Leuven mail address. If you get the question regarding the type of account, choose 'Work- or school account'. Next page is the Central Login page. Log in with your KU Leuven username (u-number / r-number / s-number) as username & your chosen KU Leuven password in the password field (or log in via the KU Leuven Authenticator).
- Office will be activated & you can get to work.
- Important: You are now signed in with your KU Leuven account in your Office environment. If you are using a shared device (e.g. family computer) this is not always an ideal situation, because this will grant access to your KU Leuven OneDrive data. Once you've completed the activation process above, you can sign out & sign in with a different Microsoft account. Your KU Leuven Office will remain active.
Office 365 Studenten
- Download Word, Excel & PowerPoint in the App Store, the Windows Store or the Google Play Store to install the apps on your iPad, Windows tablet or Android device. For smartphones (iPhone, Android) activation is very similar, but there is a separate smartphone Office Mobile app that combines Word, Excel & PowerPoint in 1 app.
- The screenshots below were made on an iPad. The activation is very similar on Windows Mobile & Android devices.
- To activate Office, you'll have to sign in on one of the Office apps (e.g. Word). Click 'Sign in'.
- Fill in your KU Leuven mail address & click Next. If you get a question regarding the type of account, choose 'Work- or School account'.
- Next screen is the Central Login. Log in with your KU Leuven username (u-number / r-number / s-number) as username & your chosen KU Leuven password in the password field (or log in via the KU Leuven Authenticator).
- Office will be activated.
- Office is now activated. You can get to work.
- Important: You are now signed in with your KU Leuven account in your Office environment. To deactivate an Office installation (e.g. you are no longer using the device) you can follow the steps below:- Go to office.kuleuven.be
- Click 'Install Office' & then 'Other install options'.
- Click on View apps & devices
- Click on Sign out next to the computer name that you wish to deactivate.
- You can now install Office 365 on another computer.
